Forty two million minutes: that is how much time the average person spends on this earth. It may sound like a lot, but if you’re forty years old you have already used over half of it. And, in the time it took you to open this page and start reading it, you’ve used a little more. Those minutes are ticking by, and you can’t stop them. You can never get them back, and when they are gone, well . . .
Looking back over your life, what would you say was the most important minute of them all? Which minute counted more than any other? Which made the most difference? That can be a very hard question to answer.
What makes one minute more important than another? Is it the pleasure it brings, the people it helps, or perhaps the effect it has on the rest of your life? It could be all of those things.
For some people, choosing their most important minute would seem easy. The hero, who in a moment chose to act in a way that saved many lives would have little difficulty choosing his minute. The driver who swerved just in time to avoid a fatal collision could point to that minute. The woman who stopped short and decided to look before stepping into the path of an unseen vehicle, or the man who missed his connection with a plane that crashed could tell you that one minute had changed their life. But still, was it the most important minute of all? What is your most important minute?
I can tell you what the very most important minute of your life is, with one hundred percent accuracy. You may not agree with me now, but I am absolutely sure that one day you will. In fact, that minute may be this very minute – the one you are living right now.
The most important minute of your life is the one in which you decide(d) what to do with Jesus Christ. Only you can make this decision. It is not about religion, or self improvement, or philosophy. It is a simple choice of direction: a choice of whether to receive or reject Him. “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.”
In the Bible, in Romans chapter one, God declares that, “the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness . . . because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.”
